Oral Essentials is the product of two forward thinking doctors who were fed up with the products available to them, their families, and their patients. Kourosh Maddahi, DDS, a best-selling author and pioneer of the subfield Anti-Aging Dentistry and internationally best selling book The Hidden Epidemics, was inspired by the study of an esteemed colleague, Hessam Nowzari, DDS, PhD, the youngest ever Director of Advanced Periodontics at USC. Dr. Nowzari had conducted an unprecedented study in the Philippines on homeless orphans suffering from advanced gum disease. Over the 10-year-long study Dr. Nowzari simply had the children rub sea salt on their gums twice a day. By the end of those 10 years, the disease had vanished in every case.
This got Dr. Maddahi thinking about his own practice. After dental work he was prone to tell his patients to rinse with sea salt, being largely unsatisfied with any products available to him on the market. Every mouthwash he could find either contained alcohol, artificial dyes, or something else toxic. He found himself wondering why the oral care market was so full of chemical ingredients, and why there wasn’t a single one containing sea salt? After all, almost everyone he talked to had relayed their own stories of rinsing their mouths with warm salt water when they were sick after their mother or grandmother told them to. It seemed a universal remedy.
After researching it, he found that Dead Sea salt was the best possible choice he could make when formulating a mouthwash. Not only did Dead Sea salt contain the lowest levels of sodium, but it contained dozens of beneficial minerals, like calcium, potassium, magnesium and more. This was the key. Oral Essentials became the first US mouthwash containing Dead Sea salt. He then added organic aloe vera juice to sooth, French essential oils to freshen, xylitol for its ability to reduce the risk of tooth decay, and he had our Original Formula.
Since then Dr. Maddahi and Dr. Nowzari have come out with mouthwash and toothpaste formulas for Whitening, Sensitivity, and Dry Mouth and have enjoyed media coverage from Vogue.com, Details Magazine, Extra TV, CBS and more. Oral Essentials has also partnered with FeedLA, a non-profit based in Los Angeles, providing clothing and health care products to local shelters to further the good will it was founded upon, and is looking to larger opportunities to continue that effort both in the States and abroad.
These revolutionary products stand alone in their market for being ethical, innovative and because they don’t contain any harsh chemicals, dyes, unnecessary additives or sweeteners. Earning Oral Essentials the tag line…
